“Among the various walls of the past and present, there is still one gigantic one that needs to be demolished rooted in our culture, the wall of violence, the destruction of which requires collective commitment”: this is the thinking of Kasia Smutniak at the meeting ‘Let’s ask ourselves why – Dialogues and exchanges on the roots of violence against women ‘, organized by Pomellato and sponsored by the Municipality of Milan. A man who leaves the patriarchal model is afraid of losing status, only a path of personal growth that does not stigmatize violence as a disease will lead to change.”


There is still a long way to go: “From the research of Istat – said Fabio Roia, president of the court in Milan – 7 out of 10 women do not know how to recognize violence, especially that of a psychological nature that is confusing and manipulative. Reporting is the only way out of moreover, there is a lack of awareness of the anthropological, scientific and cultural fact that violence against women is a crime.” “I believe that the male gender – concluded Manuela Ulivi, president of Cadmi – has not yet accepted the independence of women who are now present in all fields, and they have not yet accepted the fact that many women today freely express their will. There is still a feeling of reserve towards these women, who are considered dangerous and therefore need to be kept under control, and this desire often turns into violence.


It is necessary that men also start thinking about this “why”.
